'Wilt Thou Love Her, Comfort Her, Honour and Keep Her'

I'm so happy to be able to write a blog entry about a couple so close to my heart, my beautiful great-grandparents; the happiest, most loving and loyal couple. My great-grandma was kind enough to lend me some photographs and a very special wedding accessory to be able to share with you.

I always look forward to the stories she has to tell, but when my great-grandma visited us with these photographs, stories of her wedding and weddings of that time felt so incredibly special. They were little pieces of history that could so easily get lost - I felt like I had to store everything she was telling me in a trinket box at the back of my mind, full of the most special moments in my family's life ready to tell to the next generation.

My Great-Grandma and Grandad became Mr and Mrs Taylor on the 17th of July, 1948.

Wanting to be different from most wartime brides with their large floral bouquets, my great-grandma took inspiration from a magazine she had read to create her own bridal statement.

Mr great-grandad had bought my great-grandma a very special small prayer book, which held a long, silk ribbon that had been embellished with fresh orange blossoms.

'To my dearest darling on our wedding day 17/7/48 George xx'

In a tiny box, in perfect condition sat the prayer book from their wedding all those years ago, the ribbon held in place at the wedding order of service. A real vintage family heirloom, beautiful!

My great-grandparents really are a true inspiration to me, they treasure eachother as much as all their memories together, and 64 years later, they're as happy and in love as ever.
